Someday Brad would love to be a full-time farmer and dedicate his life to what he cares about most: sustainably growing organic produce to nourish our family and community. He wants to share his love of farming with our son and show him the value of growing your own food while still respecting and appreciating nature.
Our family loves hiking, wildlife and spending time outdoors together, so when we farm, we strive to embrace sustainable methods. We want to nourish the soil we are working, instead of simply taking from the land. This planting season we created our first no-till, deep compost field and are excited to see how these plants thrive. Sustainable farming isn't the norm in Alabama, and we are finding that some aspects of sustainability like obtaining nutrient dense compost are difficult. Becoming a sustainable farm is a big task, but we believe it is worth it.
We love being able to share our veggies with our neighbors and are striving to make our farm more profitable while still prioritizing family time. We want to be able to work smarter, not harder to teach our son the importance of work-life balance. One goal of ours is to have enough consistent produce to offer a CSA box some day.
